A more optimized culture medium used in vitro to mimic the bacterial composition of original oral flora as similar as possible remains difficult at present, and the goal of this study is to develop a novel oral biofilm medium to restore the original oral microbiome. Firstly, we conducted a systematic literature review by searching PubMed and summarized the current reported culture media in vitro. Seven culture media were found. We used mixed saliva as the origin of oral species to compare the effects of the above media in culturing oral multispecies biofilms. Results indicated that among the seven media brain heart infusion containing 1% sucrose (BHIs) medium, PG medium, artificial saliva (AS) medium, and SHI medium could obviously gain large oral biofilm in vitro. The nutrients contained in different culture media may be suitable for the growth of different oral bacteria; therefore, we optimized several novel media accordingly. Notably, results of crystal violet staining showed that the biofilm cultured in our modified artificial saliva (MAS) medium had the highest amount of biofilm biomass. 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that the operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and Shannon index of biofilm cultured in MAS medium were also the highest among all the tested media. More importantly, the 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis indicated that the biofilm cultured in MAS medium was closer to the original saliva species. Besides, biofilm cultured by MAS was denser and produced more exopolysaccharides. MAS supported stable biofilm formation on different substrata. In conclusion, this study demonstrated a novel MAS medium that could culture oral biofilm in vitro closer to the original oral microbiome, showing a good application prospect. As museums shift their responsibilities and functions towards audience-centered approaches, research on exploring museum cultural communication strategies through visitor experiences has gained increasing attention from both academia and industry. This study focuses on the newly opened Nan Song Deshou Palace Relics Site Museum in Hangzhou, China, completed at the end of 2022, and its visitors. Data were collected through on-site surveys and in-depth interviews. The research findings indicate that the current motivations of museum visitors manifest primarily in three forms: knowledge exploration, social interaction, and psychological restoration. After evaluating the existing museum service quality based on the field of experiential value in marketing management, two main issues and features were identified. The issues include sub-optimal visitor pathways and layout, dissatisfaction with staff services, and shortcomings in promotion and communication. The overall cultural learning and interactive experience for the entire visitor base also require improvement. The features are characterized by differentiated cultural and creative consumption in the museum and the emergence of interrelated consumer demands. Based on these findings, the study provides targeted recommendations for future museum construction and communication strategies.

Unfavorable mobility ratios in heterogeneous reservoirs have resulted in progressively poor waterflood sweep efficiency and diminishing production. In order to address this issue, our study has developed amphiphilic-structured nanoparticles aimed at enhancing the microscopic displacement capability and oil displacement efficiency. First, the transport process of Janus nanoparticles in porous media was investigated. During the water flooding, Janus nanoparticle injection, and subsequent water flooding stages, the injection pressure increased in a "stepped" pattern, reaching 0.023, 0.029, and 0.038 MPa, respectively. Second, emulsification effects and emulsion viscosity experiments demonstrated that the amphiphilic structure improved the interaction at the oil-water interface, reducing the seepage resistance of the oil phase through emulsification. In porous media, Janus nanoparticles transported with water exhibit 'self-seeking oil' behavior and interact with the oil phase, reducing the viscosity of the oil phase from 19 to 5 mPa·s at 80 °C. Finally, the core model displacement experiment verified the characteristics of Janus nanoparticles in improving the oil-water mobility ratio. Compared with the water flooding stage, the recovery percent increased by 20.8%, of which 13.7% was attributed to the subsequent water flooding stage. Utilizing the asymmetry of the Janus particle structure can provide an effective path to enhanced oil recovery in inhomogeneous reservoirs.

Diabetic hyperglycemia induces dysfunctions of arterial smooth muscle, leading to diabetic vascular complications. The CaV1.2 calcium channel is one primary pathway for Ca2+ influx, which initiates vasoconstriction. However, the long-term regulation mechanism(s) for vascular CaV1.2 functions under hyperglycemic condition remains unknown. Here, Sprague-Dawley rats fed with high-fat diet in combination with low dose streptozotocin and Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats were used as diabetic models. Isolated mesenteric arteries (MAs) and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) from rat models were used to assess K+-induced arterial constriction and CaV1.2 channel functions using vascular myograph and whole-cell patch clamp, respectively. K+-induced vasoconstriction is persistently enhanced in the MAs from diabetic rats, and CaV1.2 alternative spliced exon 9* is increased, while exon 33 is decreased in rat diabetic arteries. Furthermore, CaV1.2 channels exhibit hyperpolarized current-voltage and activation curve in VSMCs from diabetic rats, which facilitates the channel function. Unexpectedly, the application of glycated serum (GS), mimicking advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), but not glucose, downregulates the expression of the splicing factor Rbfox1 in VSMCs. Moreover, GS application or Rbfox1 knockdown dynamically regulates alternative exons 9* and 33, leading to facilitated functions of CaV1.2 channels in VSMCs and MAs. Notably, GS increases K+-induced intracellular calcium concentration of VSMCs and the vasoconstriction of MAs. These results reveal that AGEs, not glucose, long-termly regulates CaV1.2 alternative splicing events by decreasing Rbfox1 expression, thereby enhancing channel functions and increasing vasoconstriction under diabetic hyperglycemia. This study identifies the specific molecular mechanism for enhanced vasoconstriction under hyperglycemia, providing a potential target for managing diabetic vascular complications.

BACKGROUND: The standardised management of neonatal critical care centres can help improve health outcomes of vulnerable newborns. Guidance is required to update evidence related to construction and management of neonatal critical care centres in China. OBJECTIVE: To establish expert consensus on the essential capability lists for neonatal critical care at three levels in China. DESIGN AND SETTING: According to China's administrative divisions, the Chinese guidelines stratifies neonatal critical care into three levels: county level (basic and special care), city level (intensive care) and province level (comprehensive care including neonatal surgery and more subspecialty interventions). A modified Delphi study was conducted. A group of 20 neonatologists from the Chinese Association of Neonatologists rated the importance of capability items on a 5-point Likert scale. RESULTS: At county level, the list consisted of 29 items related to basic and special care, and 3 items were unanimously rated very important by all experts: neonatal resuscitation, endotracheal intubation and continuous positive airway pressure ≥72 hours. At city level, group consensus defined 38 items as essential. Besides the essential items of county level, more items for intensive care were included in city level. At province level, 64 items reached consensus, including neonatal surgery and more advanced subspecialty interventions. The Kendall's W values showed good agreement among experts in both rounds, and an increase from round 1 to round 2. CONCLUSIONS: We developed the capability lists for neonatal critical care at three levels in China. Neonatal resuscitation should be provided by all levels. Interventions for preterm newborns are stratified according to gestational age and birth weight. Congenital abnormalities requiring surgical services need to be managed in high-level centres.

In this paper, a new approach involving the use of a mobile manipulator to assist humans with mobility impairments to walk is proposed. First, in order to achieve flexible interaction between humans and mobile manipulators, we propose a variable admittance controller that can adaptively regulate the virtual mass and damping parameters based on the interaction forces and the human motion intention predicted using the fuzzy theory. Moreover, a feedforward velocity compensator based on a designed state observer is proposed to decrease the inertia resistance of the manipulator, effectively enhancing the compliance of the human-robot interaction. Then, the configuration of the mobile manipulator is optimized based on a null-space approach by considering the singularity, force capacity, and deformation induced by gravity. Finally, the proposed assisted walking approach for the mobile manipulator is implemented using the human-robot interaction controller and the null-space controller. The validity of the proposed controllers and the feasibility of assisted human walking are verified by conducting a set of tests involving different human volunteers.

In recent years, social media, which has emerged with the core focus on interaction within "acquaintance networks," has gradually been infiltrated by "strangers," leading to the disorientation of many users, especially women, amidst the diverse and intricate social platforms and emotional landscapes. Grounded in the experiential perspective of social media users, this study explores the correlations among woman emotions, satisfaction, and behavior, starting from the standpoint of the impact of social media. Through in-depth interviews with woman cohorts in China, various dimensions such as emotional fluctuations, satisfaction levels, and behaviors in social media were examined. The findings reveal that emotional expression serves as a primary motivation and purpose for users to sustain their engagement with social media. Additionally, emotional masking represents a proactive operational behavior induced by the needs for social relationship maintenance and the accumulation of social capital. Furthermore, emotional management manifests as user-initiated abandonment or shift of social media activities in response to perceived emotional stress. On this basis, a conceptual model integrating woman emotions, satisfaction, and behavior in the context of social media was constructed. The outcomes of this research hold significant theoretical and practical implications for future studies on woman emotions and behaviors, as well as for the development of social media functionalities, content management, public media usage, and psychological health interventions.

Owing to the increasing market demand of Codonopsis Radix, the cropper blindly cultivates to expand planting area for economic benefits, which seriously affects the quality of Codonopsis Radix. Therefore, this study synthesized 207 batches of Codonopsis Radix and 115 ecological factors, and analyzed the suitable planting areas of Codonopsis pilosula under current and future climate change based on Geographic Information System (GIS) and MaxEnt model. Secondly, we evaluated the quality of Codonopsis Radix based on the all-in-one functional factor including chromatographic fingerprint, the index components, the effective compounds groups, the nutritional components, and the nutritional elements, and the quality regionalization of Codonopsis Radix was analyzed. Finally, the ecological factors affecting the accumulation of effective components of Codonopsis Radix were analyzed. This study found for the first time that the highly suitable area of Codonopsis pilosula was mainly distributed in the Weihe River system and the Bailongjiang River system in Gansu Province. There were differences in the quality of Codonopsis Radix from different ecologically suitable areas based on the all-in-one functional factors, and the comprehensive high-quality area of Codonopsis Radix was mainly distributed in Longnan and Longxi district of Gansu Province. The precipitation, temperature and altitude play a key role in the accumulation of chemical components in the 10 ecological factors affecting the distribution of Codonopsis pilosula. Under future climatic conditions, the highly suitable area of Codonopsis pilosula is decreased.

Schizonepeta tenuifolia is an important medicinal plant in China. Over 10000 ha of S. tenuifolia is cultivated in the country annually. However, fungal diseases are a major limiting factor in S. tenuifolia production. In 2022, 50 ha in several S. tenuifolia fields in Hebei province were observed to be severely affected by a disease causing a yield loss of 30%. Results from field surveys suggested an epidemic during seedlings stages that affected S. tenuifolia stems, causing irregularly watery brown lesions. Lesions ranged from 1.5 to 2 × 2.5 to 3 cm. To isolate the causal agent, tissue was removed from the border of lesions and surface sterilized in 75% ethanol for 30 sec and 0.1% HgCl2 for 1 min, then rinsed three times with steriled distilled water(SDW), plated on potato dextrose agar(PDA) at 25℃, and incubated in the dark for 7 days. Five putative isolates of the genus Fusarium were hyphal-tipped on new PDA plates. Isolates were cultured on synthetic low-nutrient agar(SNA) with a ~ 1 × 2-cm strip of sterile filter paper on the agar surface(Nirenberg 1976). Cultures were incubated for 7 to 10 days at 20℃ in dark conditions. When sporulation was observed, agar blocks were mounted on a microscopic slide with a drop of lactophenol cotton blue and examined at 400×. Colonies grew rapidly with abundant pink to violet aerial hyphae. Sporodochia formed on the agar, and the aerial conidiophores branched sparsely, often alternately or oppositely, terminating with up to three verticillate phialides. Microconidia produced on polyphialides and aggregating in heads were unicellular, ovoidal or ellipsoidal, 4.4 to 17 × 1.5 to 4.5 µm. Macroconidia were abundant, falcate to straight, three to five septate, with a distinct foot cell, 27 to 73 × 3.1 to 5.6 µm. Based on morphological characteristics, isolates were tentatively identified as F. verticillioides(A1-Hatmi et al. 2016; Guarro 2013). Pathogenicity tests were performed by injection inoculation of 0.1 mL of conidial suspensions(1×106 conidia/mL) into three S. tenuifolia stems using a disposable needle and syringe. Distilled water was injected into three mock controls. Inoculated plants were placed in a greenhouse at 32 to 34℃ and 95% relative humidity. Typical lesions were observed 7 days after inoculation, except in the control samples. Each treatment was replicated three times. The suspected pathogen was consistently reisolated from diseased tissue according to Koch's postulates, and was found to be morphologically similar to F. verticillioides. Preliminary morphological identification of the pathogen was further confirmed by using genomic DNA extracted from the mycelia of a 7-day-old culture grown on PDA at 25℃. The translation elongation factor 1-α gene(TEF1) was amplified(O'Donnell et al. 1998) and the TEF region(Genbank Accession No. OR105502) was sequenced by Sangon Biotech Co., Ltd.(Shanghai, China) and displayed 100% nucleotide similarity with rDNA-TEF of F. verticillioides(JF740717) separately after a BLASTn search in Genbank. Based on the symptoms, fungal morphology, TEF sequence, and pathogenicity testing, this fungus was identified as F. verticillioides. to our knowledge, this is the first report of F. verticillioides infecting S. tenuifolia in China. This report will promote further research of F. verticillioides on this host and lead to better understanding of disease prevalence, extent of damage, and possible management options.

The mammalian cerebral cortex shows functional specialization into regions with distinct neuronal compositions, most strikingly in the human brain, but little is known in about how cellular lineages shape cortical regional variation and neuronal cell types during development. Here, we use somatic single nucleotide variants (sSNVs) to map lineages of neuronal sub-types and cortical regions. Early-occurring sSNVs rarely respect Brodmann area (BA) borders, while late-occurring sSNVs mark neuron-generating clones with modest regional restriction, though descendants often dispersed into neighboring BAs. Nevertheless, in visual cortex, BA17 contains 30-70% more sSNVs compared to the neighboring BA18, with clones across the BA17/18 border distributed asymmetrically and thus displaying different cortex-wide dispersion patterns. Moreover, we find that excitatory neuron-generating clones with modest regional restriction consistently share low-mosaic sSNVs with some inhibitory neurons, suggesting significant co-generation of excitatory and some inhibitory neurons in the dorsal cortex. Our analysis reveals human-specific cortical cell lineage patterns, with both regional inhomogeneities in progenitor proliferation and late divergence of excitatory/inhibitory lineages.

Defect engineering can provide a feasible approach to achieving ambient molecular oxygen activation. However, conventional surface defects (e.g., oxygen vacancies, OVs), featured with the coordinatively unsaturated metal sites, often favor the reduction of O2 to •O2- rather than O22- via two-electron transfer, hindering the efficient pollutant removal with high electron utilization. Herein, we demonstrate that this bottleneck can be well discharged by modulating the electronic structure of OVs via phosphorization. As a proof of concept, TiO2 nanoparticles are adopted as a model material for NaH2PO2 (HP) modification, in which HP induces the formation of OVs via weakening the Ti-O bonds through the hydrogen bond interactions. Additionally, the formed Ti-O-P covalent bond refines the electronic structure of OVs, which enables rapid electron transfer for two-electron molecular oxygen activation. As exemplified by NO oxidation, HP-modified TiO2 with abundant OVs achieved complete NO removal with high selectivity for benign nitrate, superior to that of pristine TiO2. This study highlights a promising approach to regulate the O2 activation via an electronic structure modulation and provides fresh insights into the rational design of a photocatalyst for environmental remediation.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The study was designed to evaluate microvascular invasion (MVI) using three-dimensional (3D) morphological indicators prior to surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 156 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at our hospital from 2017 to 2018. Through thin-layer CT scanning and 3D reconstruction, the tumor surface inclination angles can be quantitatively analyzed to determine the surface irregularity rate (SIR), which serves as a comprehensive assessment method for tumor irregularity based on preoperative 3D morphological evaluation. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to investigate the correlation with MVI. RESULTS: The SIR was related to MVI (OR: 10.667, P < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the SIR was an independent risk factor for MVI. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) of prediction model composed of the morphological indicator SIR was 0.831 (95% confidence interval: 0.759-0.895). CONCLUSION: The preoperative 3D morphological indicator SIR of a tumor is an accurate predictor of MVI, providing a valuable tool in clinical decision-making.

Matrix diffusivity is vital for developing tight sandstone and shale gas reservoirs. This study proposes a method to test the diffusivities of a core under confining pressure conditions using the gas diffusion technique. The diffusivities of methane and helium were examined in fine-grained rocks (sandy shale, silty sandstone, tight sandstone, and shale) under specific stress conditions. The results revealed that the gas diffusivities varied among the samples. The tight sandstones exhibited diffusivity higher than that of silty sandstone, sandy mudstone, and shale. Helium diffusivities in shales and sandy mudstones were 1 order of magnitude smaller, while methane diffusivities were 2 orders of magnitude smaller than those in tight sandstones. A positive correlation was observed between the stress sensitivity factor and the clay mineral content, indicating the influence of the clay minerals' mechanical properties. Additionally, the shale gas diffusivities exhibited significant anisotropy due to slit-like gas channels parallel to laminae in shale. It was found that the impact of adsorption on diffusivity was positively correlated to the amount of adsorption. While the adsorption effect was negligible in tight sandstones, organic-rich shales and sandy mudstones experienced an order-of-magnitude reduction in methane diffusivities compared to helium. This study presents a method to evaluate the diffusion coefficient of a core matrix under a confining pressure. It provides insights into gas diffusion behavior in different fine-grained rocks, considering the effects of stress, clay mineral content, and adsorption. These findings contribute to understanding tight sandstone gas and shale gas reservoirs, aiding in the optimization of gas production strategies.

Importance: Tenofovir disoproxil and entecavir are both commonly used first-line antiviral treatments, but their comparative recurrence and overall survival (OS) benefits remain unclear. Objective: To explore differences of tenofovir disoproxil vs entecavir in recurrence-free survival (RFS) and OS after liver resection with curative intent in patients with hepatocellular cancer (HCC) related to hepatitis B virus (HBV). Design, Setting, and Participants: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, a tertiary referral hospital in Shanghai, China, between January 4, 2015, and April 1, 2023. Participants included patients with HBV-related HCC who underwent liver resection with curative intent from January 2015 to December 2018. Patients who received tenofovir disoproxil were matched with patients who received entecavir in a 1:1 ratio using propensity score matching. Data were analyzed from April 3 to May 31, 2023. Exposures: Receiving tenofovir disoproxil or entecavir as antiviral treatment for HBV. Main Outcomes and Measures: Primary end points were RFS and OS rates. Results: Among 4451 patients (mean [SD] age, 58.1 [10.0] years; 3764 male [84.6%]; median [range] follow-up, of 51 [3 to 91] months), 989 patients in each of the groups were selected in propensity score matching. Baseline characteristics were comparable. In propensity score-matched groups, OS rates were 92.2% at 1 year, 70.9% at 3 years, and 54.2% at 5 years in the entecavir group, compared with 90.9% at 1 year, 75.2% at 3 years, and 64.0% at 5 years in the tenofovir disoproxil group. RFS rates were 83.9% at 1 year, 50.0% at 3 years, and 43.3% at 5 years in the entecavir group, compared with 85.3% at 1 year, 55.6% at 3 years, and 51.4% at 5 years in the tenofovir disoproxil group. Patients in the tenofovir disoproxil group had better OS (hazard ratio, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.72 to 0.94; P = .004) and RFS rates (hazard ratio, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.72 to 0.92; P = .001) compared with the entecavir group. Restricted mean survival time differences of entecavir vs tenofovir disoproxil groups were -0.05 (95% CI, -0.18 to 0.08) months at 1 year (P = .45), 0.20 (95% CI, -0.62 to 1.03) months at 3 years (P = .63), and 1.82 (95% CI, 0.14 to 3.51) months at 5 years (P = .03). Conclusions and Relevance: These findings suggest that in patients undergoing curative liver resection for HBV-related HCC, tenofovir disoproxil was associated with better long-term OS and RFS rates compared with entecavir, providing insights for antiviral treatment.

BACKGROUND: L-type Ca2+ channel CaV1.2 is essential for cardiomyocyte excitation, contraction and gene transcription in the heart, and abnormal functions of cardiac CaV1.2 channels are presented in diabetic cardiomyopathy. However, the underlying mechanisms are largely unclear. The functions of CaV1.2 channels are subtly modulated by splicing factor-mediated alternative splicing (AS), but whether and how CaV1.2 channels are alternatively spliced in diabetic heart remains unknown. METHODS: Diabetic rat models were established by using high-fat diet in combination with low dose streptozotocin. Cardiac function and morphology were assessed by echocardiography and HE staining, respectively. Isolated neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs) were used as a cell-based model. Cardiac CaV1.2 channel functions were measured by whole-cell patch clamp, and intracellular Ca2+ concentration was monitored by using Fluo-4 AM. RESULTS: We find that diabetic rats develop diastolic dysfunction and cardiac hypertrophy accompanied by an increased CaV1.2 channel with alternative exon 9* (CaV1.2E9*), but unchanged that with alternative exon 8/8a or exon 33. The splicing factor Rbfox2 expression is also increased in diabetic heart, presumably because of dominate-negative (DN) isoform. Unexpectedly, high glucose cannot induce the aberrant expressions of CaV1.2 exon 9* and Rbfox2. But glycated serum (GS), the mimic of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), upregulates CaV1.2E9* channels proportion and downregulates Rbfox2 expression in NRVMs. By whole-cell patch clamp, we find GS application hyperpolarizes the current-voltage curve and window currents of cardiac CaV1.2 channels. Moreover, GS treatment raises K+-triggered intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), enlarges cell surface area of NRVMs and induces hypertrophic genes transcription. Consistently, siRNA-mediated knockdown of Rbfox2 in NRVMs upregulates CaV1.2E9* channel, shifts CaV1.2 window currents to hyperpolarization, increases [Ca2+]i and induces cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. CONCLUSIONS: AGEs, not glucose, dysregulates Rbfox2 which thereby increases CaV1.2E9* channels and hyperpolarizes channel window currents. These make the channels open at greater negative potentials and lead to increased [Ca2+]i in cardiomyocytes, and finally induce cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in diabetes. Our work elucidates the underlying mechanisms for CaV1.2 channel regulation in diabetic heart, and targeting Rbfox2 to reset the aberrantly spliced CaV1.2 channel might be a promising therapeutic approach in diabetes-induced cardiac hypertrophy.

Background: Early stroke prognosis assessments are critical for decision-making regarding therapeutic intervention. We introduced the concepts of data combination, method integration, and algorithm parallelization, aiming to build an integrated deep learning model based on a combination of clinical and radiomics features and analyze its application value in prognosis prediction. Methods: The research steps in this study include data source and feature extraction, data processing and feature fusion, model building and optimization, model training, and so on. Using data from 441 stroke patients, clinical and radiomics features were extracted, and feature selection was performed. Clinical, radiomics, and combined features were included to construct predictive models. We applied the concept of deep integration to the joint analysis of multiple deep learning methods, used a metaheuristic algorithm to improve the parameter search efficiency, and finally, developed an acute ischemic stroke (AIS) prognosis prediction method, namely, the optimized ensemble of deep learning (OEDL) method. Results: Among the clinical features, 17 features passed the correlation check. Among the radiomics features, 19 features were selected. In the comparison of the prediction performance of each method, the OEDL method based on the concept of ensemble optimization had the best classification performance. In the comparison to the predictive performance of each feature, the inclusion of the combined features resulted in better classification performance than that of the clinical and radiomics features. In the comparison to the prediction performance of each balanced method, SMOTEENN, which is based on a hybrid sampling method, achieved the best classification performance than that of the unbalanced, oversampled, and undersampled methods. The OEDL method with combined features and mixed sampling achieved the best classification performance, with 97.89, 95.74, 94.75, 94.03, and 94.35% for Macro-AUC, ACC, Macro-R, Macro-P, and Macro-F1, respectively, and achieved advanced performance in comparison with that of methods in previous studies. Conclusion: The OEDL approach proposed herein could effectively achieve improved stroke prognosis prediction performance, the effect of using combined data modeling was significantly better than that of single clinical or radiomics feature models, and the proposed method had a better intervention guidance value. Our approach is beneficial for optimizing the early clinical intervention process and providing the necessary clinical decision support for personalized treatment.

The selective conversion of dilute NO pollutant into low-toxic product and simultaneous storage of metabolic nitrogen for crop plants remains a great challenge from the perspective of waste management and sustainable chemistry. This study demonstrates that this bottleneck can be well tackled by refining the reactive oxygen species (ROS) on Ni-modified NH2 -UiO-66(Zr) (Ni@NU) using nickel foam (NF) as a three-dimensional (3D) substrate through a flow photoanode reactor via the gas-phase photoelectrocatalysis. By rationally refining the ROS to ⋅OH, Ni@NU/NF can rapidly eliminate 82 % of NO without releasing remarkable NO2 under a low bias voltage (0.3 V) and visible light irradiation. The abundant mesoporous pores on Ni@NU/NF are conducive to the diffusion and storage of the formed nitrate, which enables the progressive conversion NO into nitrate with selectivity over 99 % for long-term use. Through calculation, 90 % of NO could be recovered as the nitrate species, indicating that this state-of-the-art strategy can capture, enrich and recycle the pollutant N source from the atmosphere. This study offers a new perspective of NO pollutant treatment and sustainable nitrogen exploitation, which may possess great potential to the development of highly efficient air purification systems for industrial and indoor NOx control.

Background: Thrombocytopenia is a common hematological manifestation in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS; PLWHA). Data on the prognostic relationship and associated factors of thrombocytopenia and HIV infection in China are limited. Objectives: We assessed the prevalence of thrombocytopenia, its association with prognosis, and analyzed the associated risk factors among demographic characteristics, comorbidities, hematological and bone marrow indicators. Design: We collected patients identified as PLWHA in Zhongnan Hospital. The patients were divided into two groups: the thrombocytopenia group and the non-thrombocytopenia group. We analyzed and compared demographic characteristics, comorbidities, peripheral blood cells, lymphocyte subpopulations, infection indicators, bone marrow cytology, and bone marrow morphology of the two groups. Then we analyzed the risk factors for thrombocytopenia and the effect of platelet (PLT) values on the prognosis of patients. Methods: Demographic characteristics and laboratory results were obtained from medical records. In contrast to other studies, we included bone marrow cytology and morphology in this study. Data were analyzed with multivariate logistic regression analysis. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to plot 60-month survival curves for the severe, mild, and non-thrombocytopenia groups. The value p < 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Among 618 identified PLWHA, 510 (82.5%) were male. Overall, thrombocytopenia was found in 37.7% [95% confidence interval (CI): 33.9-41.5%]. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that age ⩾40 years [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 1.869, 95% CI: 1.052-3.320], combined with hepatitis B (AOR 2.004, 95% CI: 1.049-3.826), high procalcitonin (PCT) count (AOR 1.038, 95% CI: 1.000-1.078) were risk factors of thrombocytopenia in PLWHA. An increased percentage of thrombocytogenic megakaryocytes was a protective factor, with an AOR 0.949 (95% CI: 0.930-0.967). Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis showed that the prognosis was worse in the severe than in the mild (p = 0.002) and non-thrombocytopenia groups (p = 0.008). Conclusion: We discovered a general high pervasiveness of thrombocytopenia in PLWHA in China. Age ⩾40 years, combined with hepatitis B virus infection, high PCT, and decreased percentage of thrombocytogenic megakaryocytes indicated a higher risk for developing thrombocytopenia. A PLT count ⩽50 × 109/liter led to a worse prognosis. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of thrombocytopenia in these patients are useful.

The leaves of the heteroblastic aquatic plant Ottelia ovalifolia faces submerged and aerial environments during its life history. However, the acclimation of the submerged leaves and floating leaves to these two environments in morphology, physiology, and biochemistry remain unclear. In the present study, we investigated the acclimation of the CO2-concentrating mechanisms in these two types of leaves. We found that the submerged leaves were longer, narrower, and thinner than the floating leaves, which increased the specific surface area of the leaves and lead to better absorption of the inorganic carbon underwater. Meanwhile, the floating leaves absorbed atmospheric CO2 directly through the stomata to acclimate to the aerial environment. Both the leaf types had the ability to use HCO 3 - , but the capacity in submerged leaves was stronger than that in floating leaves. The extracellular carbonic anhydrase and anion exchanger were responsible for the HCO 3 - use in both types of leaves. The higher ratio of chlorophyll a/b and content of anthocyanin in floating leaves than that in submerged leaves indicated that the acclimation of aerial and submerged photosynthesis depended on changes in the photosynthetic pigments. Based on the stable carbon isotope ratio, key enzyme activities of the C4 pathway indicated that submerged leaves might have the ability to perform C4 metabolism while floating leaves only performed C3 metabolism. In summary, O. ovalifolia acclimates to submerged and aerial environments through changes in morphology, physiology, and biochemistry during different growth stages.

Lipidomic profiles changes of the Sanhuang chicken breast meat during cold storage (4 °C) were analyzed using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS)-based lipidomic analysis. Total lipids content decreased 16.8% after storage. Triacylglycerol (TAG), phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) significantly decreased, while lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) and lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE) increased. Particularly, there was a trend that TAGs with fatty acids of 16:0 and 18:1, and phospholipids containing 18:1, 18:2 and 20:4 were more likely to be downregulated. The increase in the ratio of lysophospholipids/phospholipids and the degree of lipid oxidation demonstrated oxidation and enzymatic hydrolysis are potentially responsible for the lipid transformation. Moreover, 12 lipid species (P < 0.05, VIP > 1, FC < 0.8 or >1.25) were identified to be associated with the spoilage of meat. Glycerophospholipid metabolism and linoleic acid metabolism were the key metabolic pathways involved in the lipid transformations of chilled chicken.
